Hall & Console Table Styling

When you actually stop and think about it, the hallway is probably the area of your home that’s viewed the most. It is the first place people encounter when they enter; it’s the last place they see as they leave and it provides a walkway for you and your family to move fluidly through the property. For such a well used area of the home, ironically, it’s also likely the final place we consider when decorating!

We covered hallway décor in a separate post here but now we’re niching things down to talk about one piece of furniture that you can add to your hallway to really set the tone and that is the console table! Console or hall tables as they’re also known, provide style, substance but also function to the home and you can have lots of fun styling the one you choose!

Add a Statement Item

The first step once you have chosen your console table is to add a statement item to “anchor” it. This is interior design language for adding an item that creates a focus on the furniture within the area it’s located. An anchor item could be a piece of art or a decorative mirror. If it’s a piece of art or a few pieces of framed items, try to ensure that their collective width stays within the width of the console table as this creates more cohesiveness.

Let the Table be the Statement!

A really smart buy is one like the Loft Reclaimed Pine Console Table as it’s a true ready-made statement piece for your hallway. Adding this to the space even without any accessories will pack a punch. It’s made from reclaimed pine so as a result, no two pieces are the same so you have a unique piece of furniture in your hall! If you do choose to add accessories or accents, keep them to a minimum in order to retain the sole focus on the wonderful furniture.

Add Texture

With the addition of a new table to an area like a hallway, it can be tempting or simply naturally happen that things start to accumulate like keys, mail, books, headphones and other incidentals. This can lead to unsightly clutter so try to be disciplined and choose your table-top accessories carefully. A wonderful addition that adds instant texture and depth are plants. Go natural or faux according to how well your lifestyle or space allows for the taking care of plants and if you’re not great with plants in terms of keeping them alive, but you want something real, try succulents which are easier to maintain!

Create Drama & Add Height

Finish off the look on your hall table by grouping candleholders, lanterns and similar accessories of varying heights together. Keep the look cohesive by using complementary colours but switch things up by varying the textures! Mix and match your candle colours along with larger and higher vases for example to create a unique statement look.

Add Light!

While our Cadell Aged Oak console is a statement in itself with its aged oak finished top and weathered oak tapered legs, adding finishing touches such as lighting or a feature candle / lantern is the perfect touch. It’s also nice to add colourful, patterned accessories to brighten up an understated piece like the Cadell.
